Versions and trash

How edits and source updates are kept as versions, how deletion moves an item to trash for 30 days, and what a purge removes.

Breno never overwrites what you had without keeping it, and never deletes without a way back, until you ask for a purge.

Versions#

When a note is edited, or a synced item changes at its source, the previous text is kept as a version: its text, when it was replaced and who changed it. The item shows its current text. Older texts are listed in its Versions tab and can be restored.

  • Restoring a version makes it the current text and re-indexes the item fully, so no stale passages remain, and keeps the text it replaced as a new version.
  • Versions are part of the item, so they follow its sensitivity, space and visibility.
  • An export carries every version. See Export format.

Trash#

Delete in the app moves an item to Trash, a lifecycle state, not a removal. In the trash:

  • the item is gone from search, answers, the graph and memory recall;
  • it can be restored by someone who could delete it, within 30 days;
  • everything derived from it is still held, so a restore is complete.

Purge#

After 30 days, or when you purge it on demand, an item is purged: its text, evidence, passages, embeddings, graph nodes and edges, memory mirrors and stored files are removed. A legal hold on the workspace pauses purging until it is turned off.

The automatic sweep runs daily on one designated server, and purging a single item on demand (DELETE /knowledge/{id}/permanent) does not wait for it.

Deleting a workspace or an account#

Those are a different, larger purge, with a receipt. See Delete your data.
