Notes and versions
Write and edit notes, see every earlier version with who changed it and when, view one, and restore it without losing what it replaces.
A note is an item you write yourself with Add text. Notes are Markdown, they are editable, and every edit keeps the version before it.
Write a note#
Open Knowledge, choose Add to knowledge, then Add text. Give the note a title, write or paste the text and save. The note is read and indexed like any other item, so it can be found and cited.
Edit a note#
Open the note and edit it. When you save, the text it replaced is kept as an earlier version, with who changed it and when.
See the versions#
A note's page has a Versions tab. It lists each earlier version, newest first, with the editor and the time. Select one to read it.
Restore a version#
Choose Restore on a version. The note takes that text and is fully re-indexed, and the text it replaces is kept as a new version, so restoring never destroys anything.
Versions of synced items#
An item synced from a connected tool keeps its previous text as a version when it changes at the source. See Provenance and sync. Versions of a file you uploaded are not created by editing, because uploads are not edited in Breno.
Versions in an export#
An export carries every version. Each earlier text is its own Markdown file named <slug>--<id8>.v<version>.md, listed under the item's versions in bundle.json. See Export format.
Who can edit#
You can edit notes you own and, with a token, only notes your account created. Viewers cannot edit.
